German broadcaster Sky has created a new user interface on the set-top boxes through which subscribers enter its pay-TV offering.

The interactive and customisable start-up screen Sky Home, which automatically appears when the Sky box is switched on, provides an overview of the programmes on the pay-TV operator's linear channels and its on-demand services Sky Anytime and Sky Select.

Subscribers also get editorial recommendations for the programmes of the day and the week. Through Sky Home, programmes can be bookmarked, recorded or directly started. In the category My Favourite Channels, Sky customers can customise the channel list to their personal preferences. In the Kids TV area, viewers can see what's currently running and what's up next on a range of children's channels.

"Sky Home is the perfect tool to enhance our customers' entertainment experience by combining easy one-button access to the best programmes with the editorial recommendations from the Sky team, all directly through the Sky boxes," Brian Sullivan, CEO of Sky Deutschland, said. "Discovering new content and getting access to favourite programmes has never been easier. We want our customers to spend less time searching and more time watching better television."

Sky Home can also be accessed directly by pressing the green button on the remote control. On 9 January 2014, the free-of-charge offering launched on selected DTH Sky boxes. It will become available on the other Sky boxes in the following weeks, including cable networks.
