Qube Cinema has been licensed to support Auro 11.1 by Barco playback in its flagship XP-D and XP-I digital cinema servers.

Auro 11.1 by Barco provides movie-going audiences with 3D acoustics and incorporates height and overhead channels to the existing surround sound, allowing a more natural and immersive experience. With three layers of sound, Auro 11.1 mimics natural acoustics, the company said. Theatre owners with existing Qube Cinema servers now have an upgrade path to accommodate the new audio format.

"Adding Auro 11.1 capabilities to Qube Cinema servers allows exhibitors to maximize their revenues by offering audiences a premium sound experience," said Brian Claypool, senior director at Barco. "As it is compatible with existing standards and workflows, Auro 11.1 offers a cost-effective upgrade path to this immersive sound technology."

"Exhibitors need to engage their audiences, and offering Auro 11.1 sound is a good way to do that," said Raja Enok, CMO at Qube Cinema. "The realistic sound experience offered by Auro 11.1 by Barco will make the Qube XP-D and XP-I servers that much more attractive. With just a server software update, exhibitors will be able to play back the new audio format and provide movie-goers with a superior sound experience."
