MatrixStream has launched its MatrixCloud over-the-top (OTT) platform for operators, which supports HEVC and as a result can provide full HD streaming at under 2Mbps to smart TVs, set-top boxes (STBs) and mobile devices, the company said.

The MatrixCloud Smarthome API also fully integrates with Internet of Things (IOT) to allow the MatrixStream MX 1 gateway control over all devices in the home.

"The MatrixCloud OTT platform uses a hardware-based embedded design which is a game-changer for operators trying to deploy next-generation TV services for their customers as well as protect their customer base from the onslaught of Internet-based over-the-top TV services," said Robert Liu, COO of MatrixStream.

MatrixStream said that it's working with a "major Tier-1 4G LTE operator" to deploy the MatrixCloud OTT platform, launching in Q2 2014.
