UKTV claims record annual ratings

BARB data has revealed that UKTV – home to channels such as Watch, Dave, Gold, Alibi, Eden, Yesterday, Drama, Really, Home and Good Food – has hit record annual ratings for 2013.

The joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Scripps Network Interactive attributes its success in attracting audience growth from its strategy to increase investment in content over the past three years. In 2013 it achieved an average share of 4.67% across the year, up 5% on 2012's numbers, and saw its share of commercial impacts (SOCI) also grow, delivering a share of over 8.2%, building on 2012's record figure.

The station also claims the most watched non-PSB channel in the UK with Dave – up 20% year-on-year – and it also had in 2013 its highest ever total audience, up 5% year-on-year. December 2013 was its most successful month in its 21 year history with viewing figures for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day also breaking previous ratings records. Viewing increased by 86% year-on-year across all of UKTV's VOD platforms.

"UKTV has enjoyed three successive years of viewership growth and achieving over 8.2% of all commercial impacts in the UK last year puts our business at terrestrial levels of viewership, reaching 42 million viewers every month," commented UKTV chief executive, Darren Childs. "Audiences are rewarding UKTV's compelling and creative programmes and brands with record ratings. This is fantastic news for our platform partners and for advertisers."
