Canal+ will start to air season four of Game of Thrones just one day after its US premiere on HBO in a bid to strengthen its recently launched series channel.

The satellite platform will show the original version with subtitles to bring the American production to Spanish screens as quickly as possible.

Spain's leading pay-TV platform, which has nearly two million subscribers, has been the exclusive broadcaster of Game of Thrones since the series began. The show has also been aired on Spanish free-to-air (FTA) TV by Atresmedia's channels Antena 3 and laSexta, but not until almost a year after the US premiere.

The production, based on George R R Martin's books, is one of the most pirated series of 2013, along with Breaking Bad.

Canal+ aims to provide fans with the latest series before they even have time to download the first episode by broadcasting it on 7 April, around 15 hours after the HBO premiere.

Game of Thrones is created by David Benioff and D B Weiss, and has won ten Emmy awards and one Golden Globe.
