US broadcaster Fox will expand its German TV channel family by launching a local version of real life channel Nat Geo People in spring 2014.

The pay-TV channel will focus on "fascinating personalities" such as wildlife film-maker Casey Anderson, celebrity chef Kiran Jethwa and war reporter Diego Buñuel, Marco de Ruiter, managing director of Fox International Channels Germany, told German media magazine DWDL. According to de Ruiter, Net Geo People will show first-run programmes from the areas of travel, food, adventure, living cultures and wildlife and launch in around 50 countries around the world this year.

German original productions are also planned – one or two in the first year of broadcasting, said de Ruiter. Nat Geo People will initially be available within subscription packages on the cable networks of Kabel Deutschland, Unitymedia and Kabel BW. The launch date will be announced shortly.

In Germany, Fox already operates Fox, National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild.
