Canal U targets LATAM distribution

Canal U is yet to establish its distribution network in Uruguay, but it is already considering broadcasting to the whole Latin American region.

The channel, which this week started to look for partners in the east of the country, is distributed through Cablevision Uruguay and Cablevision Argentina, in addition to some local cable operators. But the network's final goal is to be distributed throughout Latin America and become a regular channel on the region's main cable operators.

Canal U started broadcasting last summer and has agreements with several content producers from different Latin American countries.

However, the channel is still lacking viewers, although some its programmes have achieved recognition both nationally and internationally. Its co-production Héroes de la Comunidad was awarded with a Rocky Mountain Emmy as the year's best cultural documentary series.
