MTG appoints new head of scripted business

MTG Studios, a subsidiary of leading Scandinavian pay-TV operator Modern Times Group, has appointed Mikael Wallén as CEO of its scripted businesses.
Through Nice Drama, Strix Drama, Baluba, Monster Scripted and Moskito, MTG Studios has accelerated the production of drama in three key Nordic markets which are these days hugely popular in international markets. The appointment also follows MTG Studios’ acquisitions during 2013 of UK-based distributor DRG, Norwegian production company Novemberfilm and Nice Entertainment Group. In addition to leading the scripted studios business, Wallén will also act as COO for Nice and Strix.
Prior to joining MTG, Wallén was as CEO at Yellow Bird and executive producer for feature films like the Swedish Millennium Trilogy, Jo Nesbo´s Headhunters and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo as well as TV-movie franchises such as Irene Huss, Annika Bengtzon and both the Swedish Wallander series and its UK adaption by the BBC. He has also held various senior positions within Zodiak Media for ten years.
