Videocon d2h passes 10MN DTH subscriber mark

Over ten million subscribers have signed up to receive satellite TV from Videocon d2h, the youngest of India's six private direct-to-home (DTH) operators, the company has announced.

The platform recently added seven new channels to its 456 channel and service line-up. The addition of Zee Anmol, Gujarat Samachar TV, God TV, Goodness TV, Reporter TV, Big RTL Thrill, Oscar Movies is, said the company, part of its quest to provide wide ranging channels to cater to its growing subscriber base.

"Our offerings like maximum channels and services, India's first active 3D channel, India's first 1,000GB Asli HD recorder, India's first radio frequency remote and many more have brought smiles to millions of households across India. We are continuously differentiating ourselves from competitors by offering quality services and great customer experience," said Anil Khera, CEO, Videocon d2h.

Indeed, Videocon d2h added more subscribers in 2012 than any other DTH player worldwide, according to US research group SNL Kagan, with 2.33 million new customers signing up that year.

As of December 2012, there were a total of 54.52 million subscribers to India's private DTH services – Dish, Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV, Sun Direct, Reliance Digital TV and Videocon d2h – according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
