With a market share of 47%, DTH satellite television remains the most-used TV reception method in Germany with 18.07 million households using this option for their main TV set.
However, DTH satellite reception didn't grow in 2013 compared with 2012, while all other reception methods gained viewers. Cable television climbed by 1% to 16.85 million households, DTT by 1.5% to 2.08 million and IPTV by 16% to 1.46 million.
These figures are taken from the TV Monitor 2013 report released by Astra satellite operator SES for which market research institute TNS Infratest conducted 6,000 interviews throughout Germany at the end of 2013.
The number of HDTV households grew by 10% to 14.21 million. DTH satellite reception leads with a market share of 59%. 8.32 million households receive HD channels via satellite, followed by cable (4.95 million) and IPTV (0.94 million). No HD channels are offered on DTT in Germany.
