German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has won 138,000 new customers in Q4 2013, thereby increasing its subscriber base to 3.67 million.

Despite the gain, the crucial Christmas period turned out to be disappointing compared to Q4 2012, when Sky Deutschland recorded a stronger subscriber growth with 151,000 new additions.

Turnover increased by 16% compared with last year to €414.3 million, however the operative result (EBITDA) remained in the red with a loss of €37 million. In Q4 2012, the operative loss amounted to €52.1 million. Below the line, Sky posted a loss of €80.3 million (Q4 2012: €91.9 million).

During 2014 Sky wants to acquire between 400,000-450,000 new subscribers and generate a positive EBIDTA between €70-€90 million. In 2013, the pay-TV operator gained 304,000 new customers and posted a positive EBIDTA of €35 million. Sky, however, still declines to comment on the all-important question when the broadcaster expects to reach black figures below the line.
