Viacom names new youth VP

Viacom International Media Networks has promoted Laura Abril to youth & music brands VP for Southern Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Abril had been youth VP for Spain since 2010, a position now taken by Cristina Ramírez.

In her new position, Abril will supervise Viacom music and entertainment brands, such as MTV and VH1 in Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Greece, Turkey, Malta, Middle East and Africa. She will be reporting directly to Raffaele Annecchino, EVP and managing director of Viacom for the region.

Abril has got extensive experience in the Spanish audiovisual sector, having previously worked as a sales manager for Disney Channel and Buena Vista International Television. In addition Abril worked at Sony Pictures and Cosmopolitan TV before arriving at Viacom in 2009. She was one of the people in charge of MTV's free-to-air (FTA) launch in September 2010, consolidating the music channel through its own independent productions.

Ramírez, who had been MTV's head of programming since 2006, will now be in charge of leading MTV through its new pay-TV venture, after the channel left the DTT schedule and started broadcasting on Canal+.
