German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland can acquire a minority shareholding in sports TV broadcaster Sport1 after the federal antitrust authority Bundeskartellamt approved the planned purchase of a 25.1% stake.

Part of the transaction, first announced in December 2013, is the acquisition of a minority shareholding in marketing company Constantin Sport Marketing and the complete take-over of TV production company Plazamedia. The shares are sold by media group Constantin.

"In our conclusion, we didn't come up with deep concerns against the tie-up. Sky does hold a dominating market position in the pay-TV industry. But through the planned acquisition the market position will not be enforced in a dimension relevant to competition," Andreas Mundt, president of Bundeskartellamt, said.
