Proclaiming that entertainment is its sprit, Sony has unveiled a new range of Xperia smartphones and tablets that are designed to bolster video-enabled experiences.
Available globally from March 2014, the Xperia Z2 tablet is claimed to represent the pinnacle of tablet innovation. It is said to be the slimmest (6.4mm) and lightest (426g for Wi-Fi model and 439g for LTE/3G) model of its class.
Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2.3 GHz processor quad-core Krait CPU, it offers a 10.1” full HD triluminos display for mobile with live colour LED technology delivering, says Sony, a “superb viewing experience”, taking advantage of innovations within the Barvia TV line. That is to say colours that Sony claims “have never been so real, more natural or so true to life”. It also makes use of Sony’s X-Reality mobile intelligent engine that analyses each image for optimal colour, sharpness and contrast, while its super resolution feature is designed to reproduce lacking pixels to ensure viewers get an optimal viewing experience.
The tablet has embedded a “What’s New” app designed to help viewers discover new and recommended films and video content also all accessible from an interactive widget on the home screen. Walkman and Movies applications provide access to tens of thousands of films and TV series on the Movies app through Video Unlimited from Sony Entertainment Network. As part of an exclusive entertainment content offer, users can get six blockbuster movies from Sony Pictures including Captain Phillips, 30 days free trial from the Music Unlimited service and a range of PlayStation Mobile games.
“The Xperia Z2 Tablet represents the pinnacle of tablet innovation and is a true flagship in our premium line. We have evolved our cutting-edge design to create the slimmest lightweight tablet matched with Sony’s latest technologies to deliver a unique user experience.” said Kunimasa Suzuki, president and CEO, Sony Mobile Communications. “For us, 2014 is about bringing the best Sony technology and content together, and taking it further to create absolutely unprecedented, evocative and unique user experiences.”
A media package is also available to users of the new Xperia M2 which will be supported by a unique entertainment package of 3 blockbuster movies, 30 days free trial of the Music Unlimited service and a range of PlayStation Mobile games. The device has a large 4.8” qHD display, carefully crafted, says Sony, for enjoying entertainment content on the go. A new enhanced video mode captures video in 4K resolution.
