Hungarian digital TV market expands

upc-reflectThe number of digital TV subscriptions continues to grow in Hungary, with cable and IPTV the main beneficiaries.
Data produced by the regulator NMHH shows that in January cable and IPTV accounted for 33.4% of the total TV subscriptions, up from 33.1% a month earlier.
At the same time, the proportion receiving wireless TV services fell slightly to 34.2% and analogue cable remained unchanged at 32.4%.
The total number of cable and IPTV subscriptions, based on the nine major players, was 2,006,222 in January, of which 1,019,353 were digital.
At the same time, the wireless (DTH and MMDS) total was 919,842 and the pay-DTT service MinDig TV Extra had 122,394 subscribers.
UPC remained the leading provider of subscription TV services overall, with a market share of 26.3%.
It was followed by Magyar Telekom (23.7%), Digi (22.7%), Invitel (3.7%), MinDig TV Extra (3.7%), Tarr (2.9%), PR-Telekom (2.4%), ViDaNet (2.1%), Hello HD (1.1%) and Parisat (0.6%).
