ABC TV has unveiled a major upgrade of its online TV viewing service, iview.abc.net.au, and app for iPad and iPhone.
ABC director of television, Richard Finlayson, said the redesign follows the successful launch of the ABC iview Android app in December. “ABC iview has always been a platform of innovation and we continually look at ways to enhance the service so Australian audiences need never miss a moment of their favourite shows.
“The new iview will also support an even broader catalogue of shows created especially for online audiences. Watch out for the amazing Fresh Blood and Wastelander Panda launching this year.”
The new iview design gives viewers instant access to the most popular programmes and latest episodes from the previous night’s broadcast, across all ABC television channels. Programme recommendations, additional episodes and related shows are showcased throughout the service.
iview viewers can plan their own schedule by saving favourite programmes to the new Watchlist feature. Finding a particular programme is also easier via enhanced search, functionality and navigation through the ABC TV’s broadcast channel brands.
The update to ivew’s iOS and Android apps extends the new features to audiences who use iview on more than 800,000 tablets and smart phones every month.
In a further update to the website coming soon, parents will have the option to set iview to display only programs suitable for children.
Arul Baskaran, ABC head of online and multiplatform, said iview had been a huge success, with over one million Australians using the service each month.
“With this update we’re making iview even easier to use. With improved search, better browsing and a personalised Watchlist, the new iview really showcases ABC TV’s great content.”
Two new programmes created especially for online audiences will screen this year: Fresh Blood, an initiative with Screen Australia to find the next generation of comedy performers and producers, and Wastelander Panda, an epic story of loyalty and betrayal in an environment where no-one can survive alone.
