STN buys African satellite platform

STNSloveniaís STN has announced the recent acquisition of the new DTH platform operated by the Chinese company Startimes and serving sub-Saharan Africa.

According to STN, it was specifically sought out by Startimes, which already has a large presence in the DTV/DTH market in Africa, providing pay-TV services for over 2.5 million subscribers in 11 countries.

The platform employs KA-band on Astraís SES 5 satellite with the MPEG-4 DVB-S2. STN says Startimes entrusted it with this new high profile project with the key factors being, STNís proven experience and reputation for high quality reliable services combined with the ability to surmount any possible obstacles.

It adds that as part of STNís work ethic to research the needs of the current market and advance forward, STNís engineers developed an enhancement for uplink transmission service technology for the Ka-band.

Commenting on the acquisition, Mitja Lovsin, STNís sales and marketing director, said: ďThis is just another phase in STNís business plan and new discussions are already underway for additional projects in Africa and other regions across the globeĒ.
