Fresh off its carriage coup in replacing the Weather Channel for DirecTV customers, WeatherNation TV is broadening its audience.

The network has launched an app for the Roku streaming platform, bringing weather news to the nearly eight million Roku devices in the US.

"With WeatherNation on the Roku streaming platform, we make it even more convenient to keep viewers informed of severe weather, travel forecasts and customised weather news for their location," said Tim Kelly, senior vice president of digital for WeatherNation TV.

The app provides access to WeatherNation's live cable net feed, which is hosted by full-time certified meteorologists offering travel forecasts, live radar and severe weather coverage. Within the app, viewers will get current and 'feels like' temperatures, wind speeds, humidity levels, air pressure, dew point and extended forecasts for their location.

Consumers can also watch on-demand video segments of regional weather news, view weather forecasts, get a travel forecast before going on a trip, and check detailed weather advisories for severe weather.
