ABOX42, a German provider of IPTV and over-the-top (OTT) set-top boxes (STBs), has announced its new X-Series smart STB platform based on the Broadcom BCM7251 multi-HD/Ultra HD IP system-on-chip with integrated dual-core Brahma15 10,000 DMIPs ARMv7 processors.
According to ABOX42, the new solution will provide high-end functionality with up to now unseen performance in a smart STB for IPTV and OTT DVB services.
With its integrated HEVC/H.265 standard, the X-Series is ready for Ultra HD, 4K live TV streaming and video-on-demand (VOD) playback over IPTV multicast networks and OTT support via the open Internet at 50% of the bitrate previously required. It also offers an USB 3.0 slot for a high speed external hard-disk for local recording and media playback.
The X-Series supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi for high speed wireless data transfer and the latest streaming formats and DRM systems. The user interface is based on HTML5.
"We are pleased to leverage Broadcom's latest innovation in the X-Series smart STB product line," Matthias Greve, CEO of ABOX42 (http://www.abox42.com), said. "Building the X-Series smart STBs with our advanced software stack enables our customers to build next generation services with an unbreakable user experience and a clear upgrade path to H.265 and 4K UHD, thus giving them the essential competitive advantages in a changing and growing new market."
