ARRIS swoops for SeaWell Networks

Almost exactly a year after its business-changing acquisition of Motorola Mobility's Home division, ARRIS is shopping again, this time for multiscreen IP technologies provider SeaWell Networks.
No financial value has been attributed to the deal as of yet but ARRIS has confirmed that it will integrate SeaWell's adaptive bit rate (ABR) streaming technologies and talent into its Network & Cloud business. The company adds that the result will be that the combined portfolio – of IP video, multiscreen, and ad insertion solutions – will be the enabler for next-gen TV and advertising services.
Moreover ARRIS believes that such solutions will enhance IP video by enabling new levels of interactivity and personalisation. It sees them enabling the streamlining of video distribution across a variety of devices, while minimising the cost and complexity of multiple IP streaming platforms for multiple device types.
