Japanese pay-TV operator Sky Perfect JSAT Group has contracted Space Systems/Loral (SSL) to build two new satellites for launch in 2016.
JCSat-15 will replace the aging N-SAT-110 at 110° East to provide direct-to-home (DTH) capacity for the Sky PerfectTV pay-TV service, and JCSat-16 will also be used for video distribution, data transfer communications and back-up service capabilities in Japan and neighbouring countries.
"We are very pleased to select SSL to provide SKY Perfect JSAT with our next two satellites; and working together will help us meet the growing demand for satellite services in the region," said Shinji Takada, representative director, president and CEO, Sky Perfect JSAT.
Both satellites are expected to be in service for at least 15 years.
