Cellcom TV service set for August launch

Israeli mobile operator Cellcom is planning to launch a television service by August, according to business publication Globes.

The operator's employees have been asked to participate in an expanded pilot for the television service, and HDTV-enabled set-top boxes have been ordered as an improvement on those used in the initial pilot project, the publication says.

Cellcom and the Second Television and Radio Broadcasting Authority have also reportedly been upgrading Idan+ reception in order to maximise national coverage so that the carrier can offer Idan+ channels together with Internet protocol delivered content.

Cellcom aims to offer bundled services in competition with cable company Hot, but is still stating it will not enter the television arena unless telecommunications company Bezeq does not lower its infrastructure prices.
