Sony's multi-platform platform Crackle is launching the Cinema Green Project, a series of short movies related to Earthweek.
Sony has financed five films written by students from Brazil's Fluminense University which were selected by experts including the director Fernando Meirelles and the actors Alessandra Negrini and Rodrigo Santoro.
"This is a huge opportunity for young directors to participate in the environment protection and contribute to the industry," said Meirelles at the project's launch.
Three of the selected scripts are documentaries and the other two are fictional stories, but all have themes around responsible consumption, environmental preservation and sustainability.
"Crackle is between media, entertainment and production of original premium content," said Josť Rivera, digital signals VP for Latin America at Sony Pictures Television. "Which is why we are very pleased to be working on this project together with the Fluminense University, the World Bank and Sony's sustainability department. Crackle is the perfect means to transmit a powerful message."
Crackle is a multi-platform service that is available on most browsers and devices including Chrome, Google TV, Sony Bravia, Samsung, LG, Apple TV, PS3 and PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Windows 8, iOS, Android, Blackberry and Kindle Fire.
The service is currently available in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Latin America and Brazil.
