DTT dispute flares up in Poland

EmitelThe Polish national transmission company Emitel has threatened to take legal action over the delay for a tender for what will be the country’s eighth DTT multiplex.
According to Satkurier and Gazeta Prawna, the closing date for a competition cannot by law be any later than eight months after the receipt of a request for a reservation of frequencies in the 174-230 MHz band.
This would require a competition to be completed by the end of June, the request having been submitted in October last year.
However, the regulators KRRiT and UKE are now saying the deadline may not be met, with the competition instead taking place this autumn or even later.
Industry experts point out that the new multiplex could carry up to eight new TV channels and could have a detrimental effect on cable and DTH services.
This, in their view, may explain why regulators are in no hurry to hold a tender for the multiplex.
