Spain's public network TVE has purchased the broadcasting rights for the national football team's matches in the Euro 2016 and World Cup 2018 qualification rounds.
The deal between TVE and UEFA leaves Mediaset without exclusive rights to La Roja matches.
The agreement includes the ten official matches and two more if the Spanish team doesn't qualify directly and requires the play-off. The rights are for TV, radio, Internet and mobile devices, and include the production of those matches to be played in Spain.
In addition to La Roja matches, the deal with UEFA will provide TVE with highlights of the rest of the qualification matches, taking place in from September 2014 to November 2015 in the case of the French European Championship and from September 2016 to November 2017 for the World Cup in Russia.
For TVE, sports competitions in which Spanish national teams participate are its priority.
The deal, which has been just announced, is expected to be criticised by the private networks which believe that TVE isn't competing with them for football rights on equal terms. The private media have complained several times about TVE offering a higher than market price for the rights.
