Spain's JCA Cinemes has announced a deal with Sony to update its cinemas to UltraHD 4K technology.

The company is one of the first in Europe to sign Sony's new management deal, which includes installation, staff provision and continued maintenance.

Sony, which has installed over 17,000 4K projectors worldwide, will provide Ultra HD equipment for JCA theatres in the Barcelona area. The Tokyo-based company will install 23 digital projectors, three 3D systems and two management systems in the coming weeks.

"We are delighted to announce the new agreement in Spain," said Enrico Ferrari, Sony's manager for digital cinema solutions in Spain, Italy and Portugal. "Picture quality is our current priority and people expect high quality when they come to watch the latest blockbusters."

The system offered by Sony includes, among other features, 4K technology, 3D lenses, high frequency frame software and special glasses to make it possible for people with hearing problems to watch movies.
