Al Jazeera sports subsidiary beIN SPORT has extended its French service to deliver its live channels to connected devices such as PCs, Macs, iOS and Android smartphones and tablets.

In France beIN SPORTS offers access to competitions including the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, UEFA Champions League, football leagues from Europe including Spain's La Liga, England's Premier League, Italy's Serie A, France's Ligue 1; CAN and AFC Champions League.

To realise capabilities on the new beIN SPORTS CONNECT service, the company has tapped media services firm Arkena for essential over-the-top (OTT) and catch-up technology.

Arkena is providing a complete end-to-end OTT solution to beIN SPORTS including capture of the live channels, live transcoding, headend services, CDN delivery as well as the various players to publish the content on all connected screens. In addition, Arkena will also implement beIN SPORTS' catch-up service on OTT.

"Providing our channels through OTT is strategic for beIN SPORTS. Not only will we be able to reach a new audience, but we will also have a better understanding of the way our audience consumes our programs," revealed beIN SPORTS chief technical officer Sylvain Merle. "Choosing Arkena as our technical partner was an obvious decision for beIN SPORTS, as Arkena fully understands our needs and is able to meet all our requirements within a tight schedule."
