NETV app claims breakthrough in TV consumption

NETV Network is claiming to have developed a ground-breaking mobile TV app that it says will combine the two fastest growing, most powerful channels for reaching and engaging with audiences.

The UK start-up is looking to tap into a mobile TV sector that continues to evolve at pace, and from 18 July 2014 will launch the beta version of the service which it says will enable viewers to have a truly great TV viewing experience on-the-go. Moreover it says that from a broadcaster's and consumer brand's perspective, the customisable and mobile TV capability enables the delivery of high quality video-on-demand (VOD) and live TV, directly to viewers wherever they are in the UK. Such capabilities, NETV added, are offered over 2G/3G mobile phone networks without the need to access a 4G network, a challenge which the company says is still hampering most of the emerging and current mobile solution providers in this sector.

"We are really pleased to launch the NETV app in the UK and to make what we know will be a completely game-changing mobile TV technology, available to broadcasters and content owners in the UK," said NETV founder Jotham Danquah. "The benefits for the viewers are immeasurable and will change the way they view TV for ever. It has been a long process over several years developing the technology in Africa and in a number of other territories across the world where we focused on addressing the issue of unacceptable buffering and poor quality pixelated images that resulted from inadequate Internet connection via mobile devices. My view was that if I could get it to work well in Africa, then in the UK it would be brilliant."

Available channels likely to be included at launch will include terrestrial, Freeview, satellite and IPTV channels including independent broadcasters, international networks, regional TV and several leading consumer brands. Already integrated with social media channels and websites, the NETV app allows users to share content within a viewer's own social network or community.

Access to broadcast on the NETV app is free and open to almost all channel owners, brands and media owners who can choose to offer their channels free or as a premium subscription service. For organisations that want their own TV app with interactive advertising tools to drive revenue, NETV will also offer a plug and play white label solution.

The app is compatible with iPad and iPhones, Mac OS, Windows mobile, Android, desktop, smart TV and Nokia operating systems.
