Vizrt has been selected to provide two studio automation systems for the Middle East's latest Arabic TV news channel Al Arab, which is due to launch later this year.

The Viz Mosart newsroom automation licences will cover Al Arab's two studios in Manama, Bahrain. One will be for the live broadcast of rolling news, controlling technology from Snell, Sony, Calrec, Avid and Vizrt graphics, and integrating with Avid iNews and the LSB Virtual Studio Management switching and management system.

News features and insert packages will be produced in the second studio, where Viz Mosart will interface with the Avid Airspeed 5000 editing environment and Vizrt graphics. It is the company's first major sale of Viz Mosart licences since the automation system became part of the Vizrt group.

"We believe that Viz Mosart will help us to quickly make a big impact," said Yahia Al Masri, chief operating officer, Al Arab News Channel. "Our audiences look to us to be the first with the news and clear, independent, in-depth analysis. Viz Mosart will enable us to consistently deliver engaging, graphics-rich news television to our viewers, all through a lean and efficient studio operation."

Al Arab News Channel is solely owned by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and is independent from both the Rotana Group and Kingdom Holdings which the prince chairs. When launched, it will face competition from existing pan-Arab news channels Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya and Sky News Arabia.
