Extant breaks Amazon UK streaming record as four-day US window announced

As it concluded negotiations with CBS for a US windowing deal, Amazon has revealed that Stephen Spielberg’s Extant has become its Prime Instant Video’s most successful launch ever in the UK.
The highly-anticipated thriller stars Oscar-winner Halle Berry as an astronaut, Molly Woods, who returns home from a year in space and tries to reconnect with her husband and son. The events follow Woods’ drama and history-changing return home.
Produced by Amblin Television, Extant has attracted record audience numbers for episode one in its opening 24 hours with streams three times higher than any other opening episode of a TV show in the history of the UK’s largest movie and TV streaming service. Extant will make its US Prime Instant Video debut this weekend just four days after the series premiere on CBS.
The online streamer is following a formula that proved successful with its exclusive short-window deal for CBS’s Under the Dome, which became Prime Instant Video’s most-watched series of 2013 and was television’s No. 1 summer series in viewers, averaging nearly 14 million viewers per week. Season two of Under the Dome follows the same model, with episodes available on Prime Instant Video in the same four-day window.

The second episode of Extant will be available from 17 July exclusively in the UK through Amazon Prime Instant Video just hours after it debuts on CBS in the US. New episodes will be available to stream each week, one day after their US broadcast, in high definition and on over 400 connected devices.
