TVE plans a summer of basketball

Spain's TVE is to broadcast the warm-up matches of national basketball teams for the World Cup. In a highly competitive environment, the country's public network has managed to get some secondary rights while the most-followed competitions are bought by the large free-to-air and pay-TV platforms.
TVE's Teledeporte sports channel, which is due to be closed in future due to financial problems, will broadcast the matches of Juan Antonio Orenga's team against Canada, Angola, Turkey, Senegal, Croatia and Argentina.
Spain's national team aims to win the World Cup, which is also to be hold in Spain in September, as well as it did in Japan in 2006. From 23 July, the team will be training, with the initial warm-up match on 6 August against Canada. The round of preliminary matches will conclude with a match against Argentina on 25 August, right before the tournament starts.
But not only the Paul Gasol, Navarro or Sergio Rodríguez matches will be broadcast, as TVE has also the rights for the women's team, both for the preliminary matches and for the World Cup taking place in Turkey from 27 September.
The network's bet on basketball includes as well the matches for European and international competitions of Spain's national teams U-20, U-18, U-17 and U-16.
