Over-the-top (OTT) services are on the increase in Latin America, with Colombia and Mexico leading the pack.
According to a Dataxis' report published through NexTV, these two regions' OTT services grew most out of Latin America's seven largest markets.
Colombia added 139,000 subs, reaching 242,000 by the end of Q1 2014, up 135.7% over the last year, with Netflix, Clarovideo and Caracol's Play being the most popular services.
Mexico's figures are even greater, with 2.04 million users, up 1.11 million in a year. The 121.2% growth means Mexico now has the largest OTT customer base in the region, with the sector being led by Netflix and Clarovideo.
Brazil follows Mexico as the second largest market, with 1.17 million subs by the end of Q1, up 51.1% in the last year. Chile (up 75.8% to reach 145,000 subs) and Argentina (up 51.8% to 314,000), complete the top five OTT fastest growers in the region.
"Through the improvement of broadband connections, more attractive content offers and the success in sales of connected devices, OTT services are frankly skyrocketing," said Juan Pablo Conti, senior analyst at Dataxis.
