Sky Deutschland to drop Nagravision
By Chris Forrester

Sky Deutschland is about to start a switch-out of its older Nagravision-secured set-top boxes in order to make the pay-TV broadcaster an all Cisco system .

Reports from Germanyís Digital Fernsehen, quoting Stefan Kunz, Sky Deutschlandís VP/business and distribution, say that viewers who are still using older boxes will be supplied with a newer Sky HD unit which uses Cisco encryption. The swap-outs will be completed by the end of 2015.

Sky Deutschland already uses the full suite of the former N.DS technologies for its later generation set-top boxes, including VideoGuard Conditional Access, MediaHighway set-top box software with XTV DVR technology, and the N.DS Electronic Program Guide. Cisco completed its acquisition of N.DS mid-2102.
