| 29 August 2014

Aiming to address a market with a potential of three million video subscribers, Chinese cable operator Beijing Gehua CATV Network Co (BGCTV) has launched a new cloud-based multiscreen video service.

The launch marks the first multiscreen video service offered by a Chinese cable network operator using a cloud solution and is claimed to be the largest multiscreen cable service offered in China.

At the heart of the deployment that offers BGCTV's 150 SD channels and 50 HD video channels to connected devices — such as smart TVs, PCs, smartphones and iPads — is Envivio Muse encoding software. "We are proud to be the first in China to use the latest in cloud technology for our multiscreen video services," commented a BGCTV spokesperson. "We have selected the right partner in Envivio for this ground-breaking service, as we appreciate they have the most experience in multiscreen and one of the most reliable video solutions available today."
