Drama on and off pitch boosts iPlayer in July 2014

The seemingly odd couple of the World Cup and The Honourable Woman joined hands to provide a major boost to the BBC iPlayer in July 2014.

gyggenhallAccording to the latest performance data from BBC iStats, there were 231 million requests in the month with all three of the final World Cup football matches making it into the top 20 most requested TV programmes. The Germany vs Brazil semi-final alone generated 1.2 million requests, boosting live requests to 15% of the total for TV, while the eight-part Maggie Gyllenhaal-led drama series was the most popular programme in July with 1.3 million requests for the first episode. At the end of the month, Murdered By My Boyfriend had been seen over three million times on the iPlayer in total, making it the most-requested BBC Three drama of all time.

In terms of platforms, in July, mobiles and tablets contributed just under of half all requests to TV programmes on BBC iPlayer, broadly stable on the previous month, breaking down to 28% tablets and 19% mobiles. The ratio of catch-up to live requests also remained at a stable level, specifically 85% to 15%.
