LPR Hessen, the local media authority of German federal state Hessen, has opened a tender for the allocation of DTT capacity to a TV channel on a multiplex serving Frankfurt and surroundings.

The capacity on DTT channel K52 has previously been occupied by German commercial TV channel Anixe, LPR director Joachim Becker told Broadband TV News. The entertainment channel terminated its DTT distribution in the region in May 2014 and has now also handed back the concession, thereby enabling the reallocation of the slot.

The capacity reaches around 2.3 to 3 million viewers using small indoor antennas. The reach increases to more than 6 million people if a roof aerial pointed to the transmitter site is used for reception.

DVB-T Rhein-Main Sender 2014In the tender, LPR wants to favour broadcasters providing the best supplementary content to the existing DTT channel line-up in the region (see chart).

Parties interested in the capacity have to submit their application to LPR by October 8, 2014, 12.00 CET. The media authority wants to issue the new concession by Christmas.
