Paraguay's Tigo Star is adding Uruguayan Canal U – which focuses on the positive aspects of Uruguay's economy, politics and culture – to its pay-TV schedule.
Through this distribution agreement, Canal U increases its presence in Latin America, where it's currently broadcast in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Chile, as well as Uruguay and now Paraguay. The channel, which also offers some live streamed programmes through its online channel, offers Uruguayan productions such as Campeones de la Vida, Finoli Finoli, Importados and De América y del Mundo.
Paraguay's pay-TV platform, one of the largest in the country, announced the distribution deal during the Media Show 2014 held in the country's capital Asunción.
"The initial idea was to find an integration space, but it finally ended with Canal U being added to Tigo's schedule from next week," explained Pablo Scotellaro, Canal U's president. "In addition, we are also ready to launch the Sistema de Información del Sur (SIS) together with TN and Unicanal, a system which intends to gather all the news of our region and contribute to Latin American unity."
"For us, bringing Canal U into Tigo's schedule is a very important challenge," added Raúl Ibáñez, business unit manager home at Tigo. "It's an exchange between two countries, bringing Uruguay to Paraguay and vice-versa."
