Claro Video acquires Amazon Studios' rights for LATAM

Following an agreement between Sony Pictures Television and Claro Video, the over-the-top (OTT) platform is to stream some of the latest productions from Amazon Studios to the Latin American audience.

clarovideoUnder the agreement, Claro Video subscribers will be able to watch Alpha House and Betas from the middle of October, while Mozart in the Jungle will arrive early in 2015. The distribution rights cover subscribers in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Dominican Republic.

"This is a very important agreement for our company, as it transforms Claro Video in a digital window to Latin America through which some of the most innovative productions are delivered," said Pablo Iacoviello, acquisitions VP at DLA, which operates Claro Video. "It places our service among the most modern platforms in Latin America."

Claro Video, which offers OTT video-on-demand (VOD) content, belongs to América Móvil and leads the online video market in most Latin American countries.

"Counting on one of the world's largest content libraries, Sony Pictures Television offers programming for any kind of platform," added Alexander Marín, senior VP for distribution in Latin America, Sony Pictures Television. "We expect to bring more series to Claro Video soon."
