The Polish National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) has assuaged fears voiced by many in the industry about what will be the country’s eighth DTT multiplex.

Speaking to a parliamentary (Sejm) committee and quoted by Wirtualne Media, Krzysztof Luft, a member of the council, said that the multiplex would not be allocated in its entirety to the public broadcaster TVP.

Although the KRRiT announced this summer that the multiplex would be reserved solely for TVP, it has since backtracked following protests from commercial broadcasters.

Poland currently has three DTT multiplexes, offering a total of 24 FTA channels, up and running, with TVP having sole use of the third multiplex.

A fourth multiplex is meanwhile used by Polsat to distribute paid mobile TV services
