Technicolor to be Warner Bros exclusive IP licensing agent
| 18 October 2014
Aiming to capture the value of the studio's patent portfolio, Technicolor has signed an agreement with Warner Bros. Entertainment to represent the studio as its exclusive IP licensing agent.
The media and entertainment technology provider will act as a strategic partner for Warner Bros. in a broad number of areas, specifically: packaged media and initiatives related to technology and licensing. This agreement reinforces the licensing relationship between the two companies initiated as founding licensor members of the Premier BD patent pool, which offers to the industry a package of essential patents related to Blu-ray, an area in which Warner Bros. and Technicolor have successfully partnered since 2010. The new deal does not cover patent pool licensing programmes.
Technicolor is confident that Warner Bros. can rely on its track-record of monetising its portfolio of intellectual property and partnering with technology leaders to grant licenses to applicable industries on their behalf. The company adds that will bring both its licensing expertise, backed by its understanding of the entertainment industry ecosystem and its commitment towards the success of its Hollywood partners.
