Sky New Zealand lights up SVOD with Neon

Aiming to head off the growing competition it faces from online video and OTT rivals in the country, Sky New Zealand has announced that it is to launch a new online subscription VOD service in December 2014.

The new Neon SVOD bouquet will offer exclusive TV series, hundreds of films, factual entertainment, documentaries and family viewing programming. This will include content from studios such as HBO, FX and AMC. The first 30 days are free and will cost $20 every 30 days thereafter, with no long-term contracts and no ads.

At launch, Neon will be available on PC and Mac using an Internet browser and on selected iPhones and iPads through a free app. To gain a big-screen experience, it is possible to stream via Apple TV using Airplay and also to connect to a TV with an HDMI cable. From January 2015. Neon will be available on Xbox 360 and selected Samsung Android tablets and phones. Neon users can register up to five different connected devices and watch on two at the same time. It has employ a bookmark feature so that users can pick up and play where they left off, on any registered devices.
