Satellite communications company SES TechCom will support Qatar's satellite operator Es'hailSat in the development of its new teleport facility, as part of a consultancy agreement between the two companies.

The teleport, to be built north of Doha, will provide satellite control and communications support for the Es'hail 2 satellite, and offer up-linking and reception facilities for Es'hailSat's partners.

Qatari broadcasters beIN Sports (formerly Al Jazeera Sport), Al-Rayyan, Al-Kass, and Qatar TV are currently using capacity on Es'hail 1, which is co-located with Arabsat at 26° East and operated on behalf of Es'hailSat by Eutelsat.

"The establishment of our own teleport in Qatar is an integral part of the Es'hailSat program, giving us a secure and independent satellite infrastructure. It marks another key milestone in our plan to become a leading satellite operator and centre of excellence in the MENA region," said Ali Ahmed Al-Kuwari, CEO, Es'hailsat.

Es'hailSat is working towards the provision of broadcast and broadband capacity required for Qatar to properly host the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Its second satellite is scheduled for launch by the fourth quarter of 2016.

Gerhard Bethscheider, managing director, SES TechCom, added: "SES is proud to support Es'hailSat in the development of their new, state-of-the-art teleport infrastructure in Qatar and I am confident that SES TechCom will be a knowledgeable and reliable partner for Es'hailSat's ambitious project. SES operates several of the largest and most successful teleports in the world and this with an unrivalled experience in the design and operation of such facilities."
