US platforms drive Latin American TV everywhere, VOD

Even though Latin America has lately seen the consolidation of several national and regional over-the-top (OTT) and video-on-demand (VOD) platforms, US platforms are leading the VOD and TV everywhere sectors.
According to the latest report from Business Bureau, based on online panels, only Televisa and its free VOD service appear among the most used platforms by Latin Americans, delivering free on-demand content to 3.4 million viewers in Mexico.
Regarding TV everywhere, HBO Go and FOX Play lead the region, working in several countries and having distribution agreements with different operators, while other national platforms are limited to a single territory.
HBO Go and FOX Play have been used by 8% of Latin American during the last three months, with the HBO the platform having the most subscribers in the region. According to the research, HBO Go's subs use the platform daily and 60% of them are highly satisfied with the service.
7.3 million subs in the region drive Netflix to the top among VOD services. The popular US OTT platform is appreciated for its HD quality, content and multiscreen features - making it available on many different devices.
Business Bureau also looked into what the analyst calls transactional services, streaming platforms using a different payment method. In this category, Google Play Movies, with 3.1 million estimated users, and Apple TV (1.8 million) are the most used in the region, confirming the US leadership in Latin America's new TV arena.
Still, Latin American platforms such as America Movil's Claro Video, which operates in most countries in the region, and several local and national services are also seeing growth and are beginning to compete with the major US VOD, OTT operators.
