Reed Hastings, head of subscription video-on-demand service Netflix, has said it will strongly increase its original productions.

“We will more than double the amount of our own productions in the next years,” Hastings told German weekly newspaper Die Zeit.

In Berlin, German director Tom Tykwer is shooting an episode of Sense 8, a series playing in eight cities of the world. Further sole German productions are planned as well as French, Columbian and Norwegian productions.

The first Netflix series House of Cards won three Emmy awards. By now, Hastings commissioned the production of a dozen further series many of which also received awards.
