Olympusat embarks on multiscreen TV everywhere expansion
| 30 October 2014
The Olympusat Spanish-language TV network has turned to Viaccess-Orca to support its upcoming multiscreen over-the-top (OTT) service.
Olympusat Holdings is one of the largest independent media companies owning, operating and representing more than 60 Spanish-language TV networks with over 10,000 hours of content. Its leading networks include Cine Mexicano, Sorpresa, Gran Cine and the newly introduced UltraHD Plex, which provides the Hispanic audience, for the first time, high definition (HD) Spanish-language films, music and entertainment channels. Its selection of the Viaccess-Orca's Voyage TV everywhere solution follows a number of successful IPTV, OTT, and DTH deployments with leading operators, including Orange in France, Spain, Poland and Romania.
The offering will initially be available throughout North and South America. It will be the first live and video-on-demand (VOD) Spanish network available on the Microsoft Xbox. A key ingredient will be Olympusat Telecom bundling its content preparation services with content from Olympusat Holdings and Viaccess-Orca's technology, providing operators with a single, end-to-end, cloud-based multiscreen solution which it is confident will reduce both risk and the up-front investment required to launch a multiscreen service.
The deployment will also see Olympusat making use of Voyage's unified service delivery platform (RiGHTv) and content discovery solution (COMPASS), through which it can deliver a variety of Spanish-language content — including live television, catch-up TV and VOD — to subscribers on any screen. Olympusat Telecom will also use Viaccess-Orca's Connected Sentinel and Connected Sentinel Player to ensure secure content distribution.
"Our new TVE and OTT service will enable MSOs and telco operators in the Americas to strengthen their current offering and drive the growth of broadband connectivity to end-user on a low OPEX model," commented Austin Powers, president at Olympusat Telecom. "The partnership with Viaccess-Orca promises to be yet another important milestone for our company."
