Hong Kong's SMiT and South Korea's Samsung are collaborating on integrated digital television (iDTV) technology for the Indian direct-to-home (DTH) market.

The partnership will see SMiT's Advanced Security CI+ 1.3 content asset management (CAM) system integrated with Samsung's high definition iDTV set, in a first-of-its-kind deal for India's satellite TV market.

The two companies say they have developed the solution to fulfil all the policies governing India's DTH sector, including fingerprinting.

The "iDTV + CAM is a smart solution that not only enables a hassle-free TV set-up that has fewer wires but will also assists in the reduction of signal loss (compared with a set-top box)," SMiT said in a statement.

The news follows the announcement that Samsung formed an iDTV partnership in October with Airtel Digital TV, one of India's six private DTH operators.
