Cable & Wireless' much anticipated direct-to-home (DTH) TV platform in Panama is finally up and running, supported by Media Networks satellite wholesaling services in Latin America.

medianetworksPanama's Cable & Wireless subsidiary is initially offering a pay-TV service with 55 standard definition channels, two premium movie packages - HBO and Moviecity - and an adult content package.

"The project is essential for Media Networks, as it's our first client in Panama and makes us key to a company's evolution into satellite pay-TV," explained Leandro Gaunszer, commercial director at Media Networks, the business-to-business unit of Telefónica. "Our solution allows Cable & Wireless to cover regions where there was no service before."

The telco is one of the main operators in the country, offering telephone, mobile, data storage, TV and corporative services.

The pay-TV platform +TVDigital is cable-based and includes a post and a pre-paid option.

Included in the service are general networks such as CNN, Al Jazeera, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Infinito, Animal Planet, ESPN and Fox Sports; kids' channels like Disney Channel, Cartoon Network and Boomerang TV; soap opera networks such as Caracol TV and Pasiones; and channels for movies and series like TNT, Film Zone and Studio Universal.
