Following the channel's success in various markets around the globe, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) The Americas is launching Paramount Comedy in Latin America.

paramountThe 24/7 film network premieres in the region today (14 November), targeting 14 million pay-TV subs on the main cable and satellite operators with an SD and an HD signal.

Paramount Channel has been on-air in Spain for over two years, achieving good figures in a poor pay-TV market, while in France it is among the leading film channels with more than five million viewers. The channel is available for 45 million subs across the world including countries such as Hungary, Romania and, since a few months ago, Russia.

"Paramount Channel meets viewers' entertainment demands, delivering a mix of award-winning films, classics, action, drama, horror and science fiction, which makes it a family channel," said Carlos Penzini, senior VP and brand manager at VIMN The Americas.

The Viacom channel will be pan-regionally distributed by DirecTV and Telefónica, while Megacable, Cablemás, Cablecom, Cablevision Monterrey and Grupo Hevi will deliver the network in México; Sky, OiTV, Vivo, CTBC and SimTV in Brazil; TV Cable, CNT and Univisa in Ecuador; NetUno in Venezuela; and Cabletica, Coopelesca and Telecable in Costa Rica.

"We are sure Paramount Pictures' wide portfolio will feed the Latin Americans' movies needs," commented Pier Gazzolo, COO at VIMN and executive director at The Americas division. "Our catalogue will drive our brand mission in the region, which is to offer classic and epic stories in a contemporary space."
