Oregan Networks joins RDK community
| 15 November 2014
Pay-TV systems provider Oregan Networks has become the latest member of the RDK (Reference Design Kit) project, signalling a strategic intent to align its engineering expertise and services with RDK’s initiatives.

The RDK is a pre-integrated software bundle that provides a common framework for powering CPE from TV service providers, including set-top boxes, gateways and converged devices. It is designed to allow TV service providers can standardise certain elements of these devices, and also customise the applications and user experiences that ride on top. RDK code is located beneath and independent of the application framework or UE/UX/UI layer of these devices.

At present the RDK is supported by more than 180 companies such as CE manufacturers, chip vendors, software developers, system integrators and pay-TV service providers. It is administered by the RDK Management LLC, a joint venture between Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable and Liberty Global.

Commenting on his company’s move, Oregan CEO Mark Perry said: “Based on the traction that collaborative models of development have gained in the embedded software market, Oregan embraces this trend and actively participates in initiatives such as RDK, allowing operators to tap into key benefits of community-driven code bases, yielding increased velocity of evolution and issue resolution”.
