CE giant Samsung has maintained its connected TV momentum and UK market leadership after revealing that its smart TV platform now has more than 1.5 million weekly unique users.

This represents a 50% increase in users over the past nine months for a platform which offers full catch-up TV from the likes of ITV Player, BBC iPlayer, 4oD and Demand 5 and Netflix, the latter with an UltraHD option. It also offers curated and independent world cinema from MUBI and Curzon Home Cinema.

"There has been a significant shift in the way people consume content in the UK. This change has helped the remarkable growth in users of the Samsung Smart Hub this year and shows that people are engaging with the content we have to offer more than ever before," commented Doug d'Souza, TV/AV content manager at Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland.

"At Samsung we believe that Smart TVs are a central hub of the home, whether it's for watching catch-up content or streaming movies, chatting to family via Skype or seeing what your friends are up to on Facebook. As the number one TV brand in the UK, Samsung Smart TV is leading the way in helping consumers view content in new ways and looking ahead, we are excited about what our new and innovative services and content partners will be able to offer our customers in 2015.''
